Below is Mashafizul 3rd round game against Singaporean GM - Wong Meng Kong at the KL Open 2011. Mas had a slow start in this tournament, losing his first to games against Indian IM - Das Arghyadip (2461) and Uzbek GM - Tahir Vadhikov ( 2485) respectively. In round 4 he lost to IM Jahonghir who now lead the event with maximum 4 points out of 4!

An interesting sacrifice but unfortunately not enough to win
25...exd4 26. Rxf6 Rae8 of course 26... Rxf6?? would be serious blunder for e.g 27. Qe5+ Kd7 28. Qe7+ Kc8 29. Qxf6 white plan to penetrate black's defense with Re7-Qd6-Qc7++

White knight is too far behind to join his queen to attack black's king so white will choose to give a perpetual with 33. Qg7+ Kc8 34. Qg8+ Kc7 35. Qg7+ Kc8 36. Qg8+ Kc7 37. Qg7+ Kc8

One from Zaidan
Sivanesan Subramanian (1763) - Zaidan Zulkipli (2069)
Ambank Chess Challenge, Round 9, 25.8.2011
Annotated by Zaidan Zulkipli
34.Qb6 white's threatening to capture the rook and also launches a deadly attack to Black's king with pawn on f7 as an attacking square, at this moment I had a very strong intuition and purpose to attack rather than to defence, I definitely believe Bxh3 will be decisive and will make white suffers to find a good defense.
34...Bxh3 Finally I played Bh3. What an EXHILARATING MOMENT!!!Tactically, If white recaptured h3 with the pawn, he will get mated with Qh2. If he plays slow move like Nxe5, he will get mated as well with Qxg2. And hence, the force move is to defence by stopping Black's queen from attacking along the 2nd rank. I got excited at this stage, I dont think about losing nor winning anymore, instead I just want to enjoy and feel the position to the fullest.
35. Rf2 Qc1+ 36. Bf1 36. Rf1 Qd2 37. Rf2 Qe1+ 38. Bf1 Rb7 39. Qxb7 Qxf2
36... Bxg2+ 37. Kxg2 Qg5+ 38. Kh1 Qh4+ 39. Kg1 Bg3 still my rook was en prise, but Does white dare to capture it? Doesn't he? hehehe.
40. Rg2 Bf4 if White captured Rc7, then Be3 is decisive with mating motifs.
41. Qf2 Qf6 42. Qb6 42. Rg4 g5 43. Rg3 Kg7 44. Rf3 h5
42... Rd7 43. Rf2 a blunder !!!

MCF National Arbiters Seminar - 16 to 18 September 2011
Have you ever wondered:
· Is saying “Check” compulsory?
· What happens if your opponent makes an illegal move?
· Is touch move really touch move? What if I touch my opponent’s piece?
· If I am a left hander and I have been assigned to play the black pieces, can I put the clock on my left?
· Can I use both hands to play chess?
· In the Swiss pairing system, why some players are assigned alternate colors while some play the same color twice?
· I have been paired to play black 3 times in a row. Is this possible?
· I share the same points with another player but why is he declared the champion?
· I have been assigned to play white but I accidentally played black. What will happen to me in the next round?
These
are common wonders asked by many players, parents and teachers who are
involved in chess tournaments. And these are the questions that will be
answered and explained when you attend the MCF Arbiter’s Seminar
starting from 16th September to 18th September (Malaysia Day holiday weekend) at the Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Center (DATCC) in Kuala Lumpur.
Participants
for the seminar will be taught the FIDE Laws of Chess, Swiss Pairing
Regulations and other interesting tips in organizing and managing chess
events and tournaments. Participants will also be tested on what they
have learned and those who did well in the exams will be given a
Certificate of Achievement by the Malaysia Chess Federation and
recognized as an able Arbiter to conduct local chess events and
tournaments.
The
entry fees for the seminar is RM200 which includes MCF Certification
fees and training manuals (NOTE: Participant are responsible for their
own meal and accommodations).
An optional 1-day training program is also scheduled on 19th
September (Monday) for those who are interested to learn more about the
Swiss Manager Pairing Program. During this training session,
participants will learn how to upload FIDE and MCF rating list onto
their computer, how to search for names in the list, deleting, changing
and adding names, tie break systems used force pairing and many other
interesting features offered by the program. In order to attend the
program, participants must have a good understanding of the Swiss
Pairing System as this is the basic requirement needed to attend the
training program.
For
those who attended the MCF Seminar, the fees to attend the optional
training program is RM80 but for those who wish to attend only the Swiss
Manager Pairing Program, the fees shall be RM 120 per person.
